The Ultimate Guide to Embroidered Scrubs: Branding, Professionalism, and Looking Sharp for Medical and Dental Professionals
14th Apr 2025
Scrubs aren’t just a uniform—they’re a statement. They represent care, expertise, and professionalism. But if you really want to take your medical or dental practice’s brand to the next level, embroidered scrubs are where it’s at. A well-placed logo or name adds a polished, personal touch, strengthens brand recognition, and makes your team look even more put together (because let’s be real, you already do amazing work)!
Thinking about getting scrubs embroidered? Here’s everything you need to know before you dive in.
Not all embroidery services are created equal—some are pros, and some… not so much. Here’s what to look for:
Experience with Medical Scrubs: Scrub embroidery isn’t the same as slapping a monogram on a towel. Scrub Identity understands medical fabrics, placement challenges from the flap of a lab coat lapel to a hidden pocket that shouldn’t be sewn shut, and most importantly, the durability needed for those endless wash cycles.
Thread & Equipment Quality: Cheap thread = faded, unraveling logos. High-quality thread (such as Madeira) means vibrant, long-lasting embroidery that holds up to every wash. Also, ask about stitch counts and machine quality—cleaner stitches mean a sharper look.
Digitizing Services: Before your logo gets embroidered, it needs to be digitized (aka converted into a stitch-ready design). Make sure you understand the turnaround time and costs because a well-digitized logo is a game-changer. At Scrub Identity, we charge $55.00 to digitize each logo. The logo belongs to you, yet this is what our team needs to ensure a perfect sew every single time.
Turnaround Time: Need scrubs yesterday? Embroidery takes time, yet, if you are in desperate need, please communicate this to our team to ensure we Expedite and provide a realistic time frame.
Customer Service: You want a company that actually cares about getting it right. They should answer your questions, guide you through the process, and make things seamless. At Scrub Identity, we will sew out your logo until it meets your standards (typically, we only have to sew logo’s one time), yet we ‘get-it’ if a sew out does not meet your standards. Our goal is deliver Perfection.
Pricing & Minimums: At Scrub Identity, each logo has an upfront cost to digitize at $55.00. After a logo has been digitized, we evaluate the stitch count and are able to base a price on the number of stitches. Most logo’s are approximately $8.99 - $9.99 per piece, yet if you have a quantity of 25+, we are able to re-evaluate the price for embroidery.
- Logo Design & Placement
Now, let’s talk about where and how that logo should go.
Keep It Simple: Intricate logos don’t always translate well onto fabric, so opt for clean, sharp designs that hold up when stitched.
Placement is Key: The most common spots? Left chest (classic, professional, and a great place for provider names) and sleeves (if you want something a little different).
Sizing & Proportions: Too big, and your scrubs become a billboard. Too small, and no one will see it. Your embroidery service should help size it right, but make sure you approve the final look.
Color Considerations: Think about contrast—your logo should pop against your scrub color. If your brand colors are subtle, you might need a tweak to make them stand out on fabric.
Not all scrubs are embroidery-friendly!
Polyester vs. Cotton Blends: Some materials take embroidery better than others. Polyester blends tend to be more forgiving, while thinner fabrics may pucker under heavy stitching.
Providing Your Own Scrubs vs. Buying from Scrub Identity: We prefer to embroider scrubs / jackets / lab coats purchased directly from us, yet we will also embroider items that have been brought in from an outside source for an additional charge. In addition, if you are bringing in an outside garment, you will need to sign a waiver as errors are made and our team cannot be held responsible if the item was not purchased ‘in-house’.
- Communication & Collaboration
Be Clear: Provide high-quality logo files (an .ai version is best), specify placement, and communicate any special requests upfront. The more details, the better! If we are embroidering text in addition to your logo, we have a list of questions that need to be answered to ensure all details are addressed and confirmed.
Always Request a Proof: We will always provide a sample that will need to be approved before we embroider the order as this lets you check placement, size, and colors to avoid any oops moments.
- Long-Term Considerations
Reordering Made Easy: If you plan on re-ordering scrubs in the future, rest assured, all details are kept on file for ease of future ordering.
Brand Consistency: Keep the same embroidery style across all uniforms to create a cohesive, professional look. Patients notice these small details, and consistency strengthens your brand identity.
The Bottom Line?
Embroidered scrubs aren’t just about looking good—they help build trust, establish your brand, and give your team a unified, polished appearance. Whether you're a solo practitioner or running a multi-provider practice, investing in high-quality embroidery is a simple way to level up your professional image.
Now, go make those scrubs work for you!
